Fashion Designer Convicted of Sexual Assault

Posted on Thursday, November 13th, 2008 at 11:11 am

After two weeks of deliberation fashion designer Anand Jon Alexander was convicted Thursday of sexually assaulting girls and women.  According to authorities, some of the victims were aspiring models lured to Los Angeles with rarely fulfilled promises of jobs and stays at luxury hotels.

A jury found the designer guilty of 14 felonies and two misdemeanors, including forcible rape, committing a lewd act upon a child, and attempted sexual assault.  The seven victims ranged in age from 14 to 21 authorities said.

Prior to his arrest last year, Alexander was featured on the television show “America’s Next Top Model” and worked with celebrities the likes of Paris Hilton and Mary J. Blige.

An investigation was launched by Beverly Hills police in March 2007 when a woman reported she had been sexually assaulted  by the designer in his apartment.  The fashion designer is also under indictment in New York on similar charges and is under investigation by authorities in Texas and Massachusetts.

There is no word yet on whether any of the victims will be pursuing civil suits.
