Moped Crash Injures Man

On Thursday morning, a moped collided with a delivery truck at the intersection of Howe St and DeKoven Ave. The moped was westbound along DeKoven when the northbound truck pulled into its path at 8:34am.

When the moped hit the truck, the rider went over the handlebars and also hit it. He was nonresponsive and was taken to Wheaton Fransiscan All Saints Hospital for treatment.

Crash Kills 2 Teens, Injures 1

On Wednesday, a crash occurred in the Town of Brighton. A vehicle traveling westbound along Highway K lost control and went into a ditch, ejecting the two teens in the front seats.

Both ejected teens were found dead by police when they responded at 7:16pm. A third teen was in the back seat. She was injured and taken to Aurora Hospital with non life threatening injuries.

Teen Accuses Police Officer of Sexual Assault

On Tuesday, a 15 year old girl testified that a Racine Police officer had been sexually abusing her since she was 13. She said that it occurred more times than she could count.

The officer is currently facing 10 felony charges relating to the sexual abuse of the girl and the physical abuse of her and another child. The case is being tried by the Waukesha County District Attorney to avoid perceived conflict of interest in the case.

Cookie Dough Recalled

Nestle's Toll House cookie dough products have been recalled because of reported E coli contamination. According to the FDA, the dough has caused 66 illnesses across 28 states since March.

About 25 people have reportedly been hospitalized by the contaminated cookie dough but no deaths have occurred. Nestle voluntarily recalled the products after reports of the illnesses.

Lead Paint

Lawsuit over Landfill Deaths

Four deaths occurred at a landfill in Superior on November 1, 2007. The men were knocked unconscious by hydrogen sulfide fumes in a confined space one after another as they tried to assist each other.

The widow of one of those men has now filed a wrongful death law suit against the construction company for failing to provide a safe workplace. No damages have yet been listed.

Man Arrested 10 Years after Fatal Accident

Nearly 10 years ago, a man was allegedly involved in a crash with a motorcycle. On August 27, 1999, the man pulled in front of a motorcycle, causing a crash that killed the rider.

The man was arrested in 1999 but disappeared after posting bail. On Monday, he was rearrested and is being held on $100,000 bail. Now that he is back in the court system, the family of the rider may get some closure to the accident.

Child Chases Ice Cream Truck, Gets Injured

On Sunday evening, an ice cream truck drove by a group of kids on 17th St. The children had a history of jumping onto the back bumper as the truck drove by, so the driver stopped when he saw one of them approaching.

The child ran into the back of the truck around 8pm. He was treated for injuries on the scene, then lied about the driver hitting him and driving off. No charges will be filed.

Man Rescued from Burning Vehicle

Early Saturday morning, a man was rescued from a burning minivan in Pleasant Prairie. Around 3:32am, a police officer was returning home when he saw the burning vehicle and rushed over.

The man in the minivan was extricated by the police officer and was taken to a hospital for treatment. Being pulled from the wreckage allowed the man to avoid very serious injury or possibly death.
