Officer Hit on Way to Accident Scene

On Monday around noon, Officer Amy Matsen was struck on her way to an accident scene. Matsen was northbound on Douglas Ave and had her siren on when a pickup truck on South St crashed into her side one block from the other accident scene.

No one was injured in the initial accident. Both Officer Matsen and the driver of the pickup truck were injured in the second crash. They were taken away in ambulances.

Pedestrian Injured in Hit and Run

Early Saturday morning, a hit and run involving a car and a pedestrian occurred along Michigan Blvd around 2:30am. The driver was found and arrested about 3 hours later.

The pedestrian was air lifted to Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa for treatment of multiple skull fractures, leg fractures and brain bleeding. The driver was later found to be intoxicated.

Corrections Van Crash Hospitalizes 5 of 10 Inmates

On Friday night, a Wisconsin Department of Corrections van was involved in a crash while transporting 10 inmates. The van rolled over on Highway 142 around 10:35pm when the driver swerved to miss an animal.

All 10 inmates were injured in the crash. One of them died at the scene. Two others wer taken to the hospital in critical condition. Five of the inmates were still in the hospital as of Monday.

Wienermobile Crashes into House

On Friday, one of the Oscar Mayer Wienermobiles crashed into a Racine house. The driver of the vehicle apparently believed that she was in reverse when she ran the vehicle into the front of the house.

The crash cracked the foundation and shifted the decking of the house. The Wienermobile also sustained moderate damage. However, no one was injured in the crash.

Fatal Accident over Weekend

In Pleasant Prairie, a man was involved in a crash over the weekend. The man was traveling along County Lane when he suffered a medical problem and crashed into a front yard of a house. Police were called to the scene aroudn 2:43am.

Police arrived to find the man without pulse and not breathing. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. However, the coroner says he did not suffer fatal trauma in the crash. Police are investigating.

FDA and Food Regulations

The way the FDA and Agriculture Department handle food is changing. There are currently 15 agencies that oversee food regulation in the US, causing communication difficulties and leading to outbreaks.

Over the last few months there have been salmonella and E coli outbreaks in massive quantities of peanut products, beef and cookie dough. This, however, was only a few months worth of food recalls. There have been many more in the last few years.

Man Attacks Bus Driver

In Caledonia, a disgruntled bus rider got off at the end of a route, then ran back on just as it was pulling away. He immediately started punching the driver who had gotten up to check if he had hit someone or something.

In the fight, the driver sustained a scratch on his eye and above it. Another passenger on the bus tried to help the driver and was hit in the face. The assailant was also injured. Fortunately, the bus was not moving at the time, and no one else was injured.

Rollover Kills 1, Injures 1

A rollover crash occurred Saturday night. A man was driving a friend's pickup truck when it rolled over around 9pm. The man was ejected in the crash and a passenger was trapped.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Once extricated, the female passenger was air lifted to Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa for treatment. She was in satisfactory condition as of Sunday.
