A drilling rig that fell on two construction workers has left one dead and another with a broken femur. The workers, hired by the Toronto Transit Commission, were working on tunneling a new subway station near York University when the accident occurred.
Five employees were injured by the fallen drill rig. Two men were operating construction equipment when it fell on them, trapping them for hours. The 25 year-old man inside did not survive after being taken to the hospital. Other workers on the ground suffered from minor injuries to severe brain trauma.
There has been no reports as to what caused the drilling rig to fall. An investigation by the Ministry of Labour will be conducted.
Our deepest sympathies are with the family and friends of the victim.
