An Iowa mother has filed a medical malpractice lawsuit against a state-run hospital and her doctors after she says negligence led to a delayed and unsafe delivery of her son that injured them both.
In February 2008, the woman arrived at the hospital in active labor but did not have a Caesarean section until more than eight hours later. As a result, her son was born with a skull fracture, a skull deformity, and subdural hemorrhages.
The mother’s bladder was lacerated during the operation and later became infected, leading to a wound separation, bowel obstruction, a pelvis abscess, and forcing her to use a feeding tube.
