A class-action lawsuit has been filed against New Hampshire’s Exeter Hospital after twenty patients, including a staff member, were infected with hepatitis C. The attorney general’s office has announced a criminal investigation will be underway.
A preliminary investigation by public health officials believe the virus was spread by hospital staff who used syringes on more than one patient. The victims are accusing the hospital of negligence, the Boston Globe reports.
Hepatitis C is an infections disease that harms the liver and can lead to chronic health problems. A former patient at the hospital who has tested positive for the disease says he suffers from high stress, sleeplessness, and pain.
