Major Crib Recall Includes Wisconsin-Based Company

A major crib recall is sweeping the United States. So far, over 2 million cribs have been recalled. The Onalaska Holmen Courier-Life reports that, "The voluntary recall involves drop-side cribs made by seven companies between 2000 and 2009."

One of the crib companies whose products are being recalled is Simmons Juvenile Products, Inc., based out of New London, Wis. The company is reportedly no longer in business.

So far, no deaths have been reported as a result of these cribs. However, the drop sides have fallen off or malfunctioned in over 250 cases, and 16 report that an infant has been trapped. One case resulted in a child losing consciousness and going to the hospital.

Janet Jenkins of the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture's Division of Trade and Consumer Protection says these recalls are serious and use of recalled cribs needs to stop immediately. In the past five years alone, nine million cribs have been recalled.
