Hip replacement manufacturers Johnson and Johnson and DePuy Orthopaedics are facing a hefty legal battle after eighty lawsuits were recently filed in Wisconsin in connection with the 2010 recall of a hip replacements system produced by the companies.
According to the lawsuits, patients who used the hip replacement system suffered from pain, swelling, nerve damage, muscle damage, and necrosis. Other injuries also included increased levels of metal in the blood and body tissue of patients.
The ASR XL Acetabular Hip Replacement System was recalled in August of 2010 after several complaints from patients who suffered these injuries arose and it was found that the hip replacements broke down within five years.
