The National Transportation Safety Board is currently investigating a fatal plane crash that occurred on Monday in Lake Winnebago.
A 1940 Piper Club single-engine airplane was traveling from the AirVenture show in Oshkosh when it suddenly made an emergency landing and crashed in Lake Winnebago, half-way between Fond du Lac and Oshkosh. The pilot of the plane and a passenger, the only people occupying the plane, both died in the crash.
Boaters who arrived at the crash site to help the victims said that the plane had landed in 6 feet of water, and they were unable to open the door of the plane. The FAA and the Fond du Lac Sheriff's Department will be aiding the NTSB in their investigation.
Our thoughts and sympathies are with the friends and family members of the victims of this accident.
